I was lucky enough to get a subcontract to photograph nearly 1000 products for a company that make ATM parts and as you can imagine this took up a lot of my time.

Ive done product photography before but not on this scale, it was like a military operation. Each product was stored in the warehouse which needed to be located, photographed, boxed back up and put back into the warehouse. This was quite time consuming but at least it was a good workout!!

The products varied in sized from tiny screws to massive electronic components that took two people to lift, this made the job a lot more interesting and I become fascinated with all the different parts, I am a geek at heart.

As all the images need to be on a white backdrop the best way to to achieve this was to use my Lastolite HiLite backdrop, I then placed the products on a sheet of glass between two chairs as this way you can shoot at a angle and then there is less work in the editing process.

I have also been photographing a variety of PR photos for various clients including The Dorset Chamber, Coles Miller and Inspire.

One of my favourite jobs this month has been photographing some delicious food for local pub ‘The Quay’. The only issue with photographing food is that it makes me hungry! But they were nice enough to let me have the chicken wings after I’d finished photographing them.

I know that the best light to photograph food is natural light however typically on the day of the shoot it was cloudy and dull so I used my studio lights and soft box to created some light without being too harsh.

To make sure that the shadows aren’t too harsh I used a vey high tech piece of equipment – tin foil wrapped around a sheet of card! This helps bounce the light and gives a more natural look. I am really enjoying food photography at the moment and it is definitely something id like to do more of. I often find myself scrolling instagram looking at other food photographers and being very inspired, some of my favourite people to follow are David LoftusJamie Oliver and even the food network page. I alway find looking at other photographers pages/photos makes me want to do better and helps push me into learning and doing more which can only be a good thing.

Short but busy February https://www.skcphotography.co.uk/blog/2015/3/Short-but-busy-February I have now been running my business for just over a year and I have decide that 2015 is the year to push myself.

One of the first things I have done is join my local Chamber of Commerce, I have been a proud member of the Dorset Chamber for the past year but I felt that I should also join a local chamber as it will introduce me to another set of business who hopefully I can work with in the future.

So on the morning of the WPCC breakfast I woke up nice and early and ready to network, however I was greeted with snow! not something we often get in Dorset, however after the other half kindly de-snowing my car I was ready to go. The WPCC is a great chamber with lots of lovely and friendly people and I have already made some great contacts. On the way home it only felt right to make a few stops and photograph the snow.

This month has also been super busy with work, I’ve had various property shoots for a local building firm, a PR shoot for Alan & Thomas with Gully’s Place, society style shoots at various lunches & events, professional head shots, PR shots of a Eco Garden at the Dolphin Shopping Centre, and one of the biggest jobs photographing nearly 500 ATM parts for a Poole based company. I can’t believe I have managed to fit all of it in in one short month. I always feel like February is a month in which you blink and its over, but I have loved every minute of it.

March is already looking like it could be a busy one with a food shoot, Gala dinner and office opening already booked in. So I had better get on with it.

Have a great month, x

Wrapping up January https://www.skcphotography.co.uk/blog/2015/2/Wrapping-up-January So as I mentioned I haven’t done a blog before but I figured 2015 is the year in which I want to push myself so that means doing things that I’ve never done before.

I always find January to be a tough month, December is always hectic with christmas and a lot a family birthdays including mine and the new year so it always takes a while to get back into the swing of things and get my head back into the working mode. Luckily I recently redecorated my office and now it feels more like a professional office than my spare bedroom. (I work from home)

January can be a little quiet for work as I think everyone is getting back to work and wading through the countless emails that have piled up over the christmas break. However I still had some interesting jobs this month. I work with a local shopping centre called the Dolphin Shopping Centre and they have recently had all new signage put up so they required both day and night time shots, I really enjoyed the night time photography and I think this is something I would like to explore a more and experiment with.

Dolphin Centre

Something else I’d like to experiment with is uv light photography, I recently discovered Von Wong on youtube and I was blown away by his photography check it out for yourself here: http://www.vonwong.com/blog/uv/

This month I have also been taking some landscape photos just for my own use. Landscape photography is how I first became interesting in photography, I live near the forest so ive been taking short walks into the woods and photographing the landscapes. It’s fascinating seeing how the same landscape can change depending on the time of day and weather. Sometimes to woods appear dark, sinister and scary but then on a beautifully sunny day they appear happy, calming and even magical or maybe thats just me??

Right I think thats enough rambling on from me, February’s diary is looking very full already so Im hoping its a good sign of things to come in the next year so I guess I better crack on.

Have a great month and see you later. x

SKC Photography enters the world of blogging https://www.skcphotography.co.uk/blog/2015/1/skc-photography-enters-the-world-of-blogging So this is a first for me, I have never blogged before but I decided that it was time to see what all the fuss was about so here it goes ….

I have now been running SKC Photography for a year & a half and although its been a steep learning curve I have loved every minute of it and I am excited to see how I can make the business grow.

I feel very lucky that I have been able to turn my passion for photography into my career and I love the fact that no two photography jobs are ever the same.

So this blog will be like a monthly diary with a roundup of all the interesting photography related things I have been up to whether its things I have photographed, articles I've read or exhibitions I have been too. Its more of a place for me to put everything so I can look back at the end of the year and see everything that I have done but if you enjoy reading it as well then thats great too.

P.S please forgive spelling & grammar mistakes as I am not a writer and am dyslexic too!
